The vulture count day turned into a beautiful bird-sighting adventure that included the Egyptian Vulture. Today, a group of 15 members participated in the All India Vulture Count in Hutridurga-Kunigal, Karnataka.
We encountered a large crowd during our morning trek up the hill. Initially, the Egyptian Vultures were not in their usual habitat, which was disappointing for everyone. However, we later climbed an adjacent hilltop to get a better view. After careful observation, we spotted two Egyptian Vultures flying in the distance. They eventually landed on a rock, which was too far away to photograph, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed watching them through binoculars.
Other highlights included a Blue Rock Thrush and a pair of Painted Spurfowl. On our way back, we had a lovely sighting of the world’s fastest bird, the Shaheen Falcon. A pair was in flight, and one was perched on a nearby tree. It was a wonderful day of good trekking and lovely sightings of some rare birds.
